Because of the wind load
in this
particular location, the panels are all backed with 3/4" HDO, all overlapping each panel to assure structural integrity. The HDO is also coated with Pelucid for longevity. |
|
Panel number two. The stringer
in
front on top is to retain the individual panels while they are joined. Care was taken in the studio to assure proper panel alignment. |
|
Panel number 1 going up
in place. We
selected a River Rock base to remain natural with the optics of this carving. All of the trim is natural Cedar. The lighting is incandescent to leave the finish with a warm look when illuminated. |
|
Still in the studio, final
color on. This carving
is comprised of 4, 4x8x4" thick sheets of Precision Board. The 3/4 lifesized skier is laminated to a 12" thickness. All of the trees depicted are actually on that slope. The Lodge depicted is one of Anapurna's Lodges on the site. The large tree, disc and copy comprise their logo. This material has an "indefinite" lifespan far beyond wood. Coated with Pelucid, it will remain maintenance free other than a water hose- down to keep it dust and dirt free. |

The finished piece in place.
This
shot was taken before we discovered Pelucid. One more shot will be added to this page showing the difference between this shot and the piece finished in Pelucid, one year later. |
